Hello! I’m a pre-med college student and right now choosing a university to get a bachelor degree. I’m wondering how much is that important the rating and “name” of the school where you get a bachelor degree. Will a high-ranking school will make me a competitive applicant to UCSF, while an average State university will decrease my chances of being admitted? Here I’m talking about UC Berkeley vs.SF State.
Please, help me to make my choice!
I really appreciate all the advice!

Here is your answer:
Hello! I’m a pre-med college student and right now choosing a university to get a bachelor degree.
[Congratulations!]
I’m wondering how much is that important the rating and “name” of the school where you get a bachelor degree.
[The school name and rating is extremely important when applying to medical school, and other professional schools. ]
Will a high-ranking school will make me a competitive applicant to UCSF, while an average State university will decrease my chances of being admitted?
[Yes. However, a poor grade from a high-ranking school often will not outweigh a spectacular grade from an average state school. ]
Here I’m talking about UC Berkeley vs.SF State.
[I would recommend going to UC Berkeley if you want to increase your changes of getting into a better school in the future. Keep in mind that a university will provide you with a host of opportunities that a state school simply can't. Also, the opportunities to network are more robust at a university]
